If canon, canon point: After her death, in the epilogue of the game.
PB: n/a
Setting Background: n/a
History: ff wikia article
Personality:
Ovelia starts the game as an innocent flower, largely untouched by the corruption and cruelty of the world around her. When the political tension in Ivalice erupted into actual war, she was taken from the monasteries and thrust right into the thick of a web of lies and deceit that slowly drive her to near madness. She caries with her a deep sadness that comes with her place in the world. She never knew real family or any kind of freedom, only destined to a life as a political tool. The awareness of this truth puts her in a depression for a good portion of the game.
The depression is mostly inwardly focused. She doesn't have a malaise for existence itself but more an internal hopelessness, presented in an often muted demeanor when not putting on the airs of statesmanship. She thinks of herself as a fool for daring to have ever believed in a more good and just world when so bluntly presented with the jarring truth of the matter. As the situation in Ivalice continues to devolve, she only finds herself cursing her lack of value more and more. She feels like she has no place to change anything, only to be used by others, and hates it deeply.
However, she is not beyond happiness. In her knight, Agrias, and her future husband, Delita, she finds a kind of solace that she new quite knew possible. Perhaps because instead of the careful distance with which Duke Larg raised her, it is an actual close and personal relationship she has with both. They fill her with hope that the world can change, that she can obtain a real happiness in a world that was built on lies. She becomes eternally grateful to Agrias, and married to Delita, as a result of these relationships. In their company are some of the few moments in the game where she is seen smiling.
Of course, this only exposes another aspect of her personality. Perhaps due to her sheltered upbringing, Ovelia is sadly naive. Her faith and belief in Delita and his ambitions blinds her to the reality in which he executes them for far too long. She wanted so desperately to have some kind of hope for her valueless life that she trusted in everything Delita did, never realizing until the very end of his ascension to the throne that his 'love' for her was questionable at best and his motivations for marrying her were simply to gain the power needed to enact his goals. In the end, she allows herself to be a pawn as it's all she really knows how to do. It's easier for her to hope falsely, after all. But when the truth comes out, she weeps as any person would.
But that weeping doesn't last for much longer. Delita's betrayal of her, or at least the fact that he had only created an illusion of happiness for her to suit her own ends, drives her to a final action in which she finally takes her destiny in her own hands, if only briefly, and assassinates her husband (in the process being killed by Delita as well). The fact that it was her last act among the living to finally find the strength to guide her own life that truly highlights her deep rooted desolation.
For all the tragedy that makes up Ovelia's life, she is still a good person, though. She is altruistic, as any princess should be, and will go well beyond her way to help others, especially her loved ones. She even surrendered Agrias into Ramza's service, knowing it would lead to a greater good. Her willingness to sacrifice herself for others is probably what drew so many to her, both those who revered her and those who wanted to use her.
Canon Powers: Thanks to FF Wikia's need to catalog every last bit of gameplay info, I have a convenient class breakdown for her! But, as you can see, it's basically just two unique spells, Aegis and Dispelga. In Rendezvous battles, she also has access to White Magicks
Freebie Powers: n/a
Power Selection: Magic: Monk
Game Powers:
Aegis - It will not be as effective as it is in canon at first, and instead just offer Protect and Shell status (protection against physical and magical harm) briefly. As its strength grows, she will be able to add other boons to the spell. This is her signature ability, and one she will use most often, if called for. It however is limited to a single target, so to cast on a group, it would need an individual casting for each member of that group.
Esuna - Removes debuffs, though not ALL possible debuffs, and has a chance to fail. As her strength grows, this will evolve into Dispelga, which can not only remove debuffs from allies with greater success, but also remove boons from enemies if they are in place.
Holy - Uses holy light to damage foes, especially effective against undead or enemies steeped in "darkness". At first, it won't do much damage, able to blast away small targets or wound larger ones, but as her strength grows it will have the much more famously destructive power it's known for, able to take our massive targets or even constructs and structures, but this will take some time to build.
Non-Powered Abilities: Ovelia is a trained diplomat, having all of the skills needed to excel as such. She also has very basic self defense training.
Setting/Suitability: While the setting is more like Ivalice pre-Great Cataclysm, it's still not terribly dissimilar from her own world, and she will adapt fairly quickly, at least to the nature of the setting. As far as suitability, she isn't much on her own, but with the protection of others, she can excel in a support role.

Prose Sample: "Please, calm yourselves!" Ovelia cried out, lifting her hands up in what was meant to be a pacifying pose, but it only seemed to scare them more, as if she was preparing to cast another spell and spread her terrible curses among them.
It was painful, watching them react like that, so afraid of what they didn't understand. Each of their faces had different levels of shock, of distrust, of mortal fear or terror. Some were enraged and sneering. But the general anxiety of the mob wasn't lost on Ovelia, and she felt it struck her deeply. They needed something they could trust, something to assuage their crushing panic.
"I understand. I understand what my existence here means to you. That something you have always held as true and just has been changed and the fear that consumes reason," despite her pain, she spoke clearly, a form of address so familiar to her at this point...
"The power to change history is beyond me. Would I were capable, it would be wrong for me, regardless. My presence, and what questions it has presented to you. Life will be difficult... uncomfortable... But I ask of all of you, do you truly have the soul within you to take the life of another, even one so strange from your own? To take a life, to rend God's work unmade, is a tremendous burden to take upon, one that would change you far more than my presence in your lives could ever hope to accomplish. You will continue to see the face of the life you ended in your mind, and it will make you alien even unto yourselves... It will not bring you peace, it will only bring Hell unto your own hearts..."
Their fearful postures didn't quite change, but the faces did seem to start. This was a peaceful village, despite their reaction to her magicks, and they had never known the flames of war. Not a one of them was a soldier, not a one of them had ever taken the life of another human-like being. They were farmers, ranchers, children of the earth...
"Please," Ovelia slowly lowered to her knees, hardly a position for a princess, staining her dress in the mud below... "Twas love I had seen in your hearts for this village before I so foolishly unmade what you thought absolute. Do not make this day darker with my blood, or that of anyone else. You are not that people. I offer myself in peace..."
Network Sample: -It was... so bizarre, seeing that child, the one she'd left behind what felt like ages ago. The innocence was still in her shining eyes, such curiosity to learn of the world but knowing it still was forbidden to her...-
Good day to you, young lady... I fear I have no glad tidings to bring. No great news of a brighter tomorrow... -She felt so weak, a tear already forming in her eye.-
Ivalice is a great jewel, and God has shined their grace upon it. But man is... cruel. Pride corrupts, and lust for power drives them. And you have... -her voice cracked, tears now streaking.- You have not the power to stop them.
You... We... are valueless. We are but tools, only worthwhile to those that would wield us to shape Ivalice and its people to their will. We have been granted no grace, no power, no agency...
Were I not a princess, were I anything else, had God seen fit to grant us any of that, perhaps we could have lived in simple happiness. But not all is lost... You will meet such wonderful people. People who will shine brightly and bring us a measure of happiness in our pitiful existence. Cherish them... and keep them in your heart.
